Documentary Title Reveal

The brief was to create a logo title lock-up for a documentary film

: How to Survive a Mass Extinction (2024).

Our team’s goal was to educate audiences about our vital responsibility to protect the planet and offers a glimmer of hope a midst the dark forecast.

Research

The sixth mass extinction, which is happening right now, is a significant loss of many different species from Earth that is currently happening at an alarming rate.
Unlike previous extinction events caused by natural phenomena, the sixth mass extinction is driven by human activities, primarily the unsustainable use of land, water and energy use, and climate change.

  • A vivid representation of the fundamental drivers behind the current extinction crisis.

  • Visually explaining the extinction factors through a creative blend of both literal and metaphorical elements.

  • High-contrast graphics emphasizing the most significant contributing factor to the ongoing extinctions.

Concept Development

I. Unveiling the Crisis

  • This direction places a strong emphasis on the educational aspect of the documentary.

  • Incorporating animated elements set on a dark chalkboard background effectively guides the viewer's attention.

  • The use of collage and graphic elements not only draws parallels between the current 6th mass extinction event and past mass extinctions, but also explains the key contributing factors and potential solutions for the ongoing crisis.

2. Class for the Future

After talking with our art director, we decided to focus more on the title/logo reveal frame. And these are the notes from the conversation.

DESIGN

- Have more explorations for the final frame's logo(title) design. Focus on the hierarchy and layout.

- Focus on the overall design and layout of the logo first, rather than the textures. ( The design itself should work even in B/W.)

ANIMATION

- Try showing the building-up(growing, forming) animation for the letters .
- Find more references for logo and type animations.
